Christina Kapetaniou is a visual artist; she paints and creates artworks through the art of handmade paper and printmaking.

Creating works with different techniques and materials, Christina Kapetaniou gains more experience in each visual medium and in its capabilities, upgrading her techniques. Every medium used is an inspiration for technical elements of another medium, source of stimuli. Through this way, features of a medium are integrated into another one. This happens, for example, when technical elements of imprinted materials in artist’s printmakings are stimuli for α relevant technique in her paintings. Using this practice of coloured layers, translucent and opaque layers are interwoven, while material imprints are incorporated, such as, corneal filaments, leaves, orange pills and others.

Her exploration focuses on the changeability of existence, and specifically, on the constant transformation of nature in juxtaposition with the vulnerable hypostasis of human existence to such alterations. Unlike nature, which engages the constant transformations into its existence as survival mechanisms, humans interpret alterations as interference in their existence creating memories with such emotional imprints.

Christina Kapetaniou holds the stance that existence is something more than the body outline, it is an environment. Such environments are connected through their invisible lines, vibrating, refracting, reflecting and such environments are depicted in her art works.

CHRISTINA’S ART – WAY; way of thinking and expressing is encapsulated in the concept «Amygdala».
